True North Holster Adapter

The True North Concepts Modular Holster Adapter (MHA) is a solid mounting interface for your gun belt. Instead of being constructed of the traditional plastic or polymer, it is constructed of lightweight aluminum. This provides additional rigidity and security for holster mounting options. Additionally, it provides a multitude of mounting options like angle and ride height. It accepts most major holster brands and their mounting options. I personally like them because of the benefits previously mentioned as well as it takes up less room on my belt, provides me the ability to gain ideal holster placement and its is secured in place. In having ideal holster placement, the shooter can perform the non-shooting things, specifically drawing the gun, with better bio-mechanical efficiency. My personal setup has the Safariland QLS system, which easily mounts up and I am still able to mount the single leg strap. True North Concepts has their own leg strap and additional mounting interface, which is shown in the photo. These types of holster adapters are common in the practical shooting sports world because they are rigid, secure from movement on your belt and more importantly, adjustable to your holster and body type. This is important when trying to be consistent and efficient.

True North Concepts is more of a “tactical” version in my opinion, but it performs similarly as others. There are similar mounting interfaces made by other companies, some being polymer rather than metal. I feel more confident that the design and construction of the MHA would better survive an encounter with a foe trying to rip my holster off my belt versus a polymer or plastic option. The MHA will work with almost all MOLLE or regular style belts that are 1.5” to 1.75”. Not all belts are constructed the same, so mounting the MHA may be different for each belt. For example, I have an HSGI Operator belt, which is basically two belts sewn together to create the MOLLE slots. I pushed the MHA mounting plates vertically through the slots and screwed them together. For this particular setup, the Velcro on the inside of my main belt will properly secure to the inner belt like it was designed to do. On my AWS Inc. SMU, I sandwiched the belt within the MHA and the mounting plates are exposed and are between the hook Velcro of the main belt and the loop Velcro of my inner belt. Ferro Concepts makes a solution specifically for the MHA and this “problem”. They make what they call the “MHA Bridge”, which is a piece of laser cut nylon with hook Velcro sewn to it and eyelets cut for the screws to pass through, allowing full contact of both sides of Velcro. Of course, this could be done on the cheap by just getting a roll of hook and loop Velcro with adhesive backing. Trim and place the necessary size and type over the vertical plates. The question is, how long with the adhesive last and how many times do you want to replace it?
